The veterans are identified, and included is the inscription from the reverse of the original photograph. It says, 'Entertained at the home of John J. Cornwell and wife in honor of J. D. Parsons and his ex-confederate comrades, March 1915.'

He provides her with updates on CSA military activities and mentions General Sherman's raid in Georgia. The letters are dated June 13, 1863, Dec. 3, 1864, and Jan. 20, 1865.
